Liberace's Museum: Eccentricity and Glamour

Before the stars of Cher or Elton John shone on the sky, there was a more brilliant and strong star that was incredibly high and with the most powerful light: Liberace. Liberace is known for its eccentricity to live. His music, clothing, scenario ambiances strived for the most glamorous tastes. Liberace achieved popularity not only for the genius of his works, but also for the ostentatious lifestyle he had.

The Liberace Museum opens up its gates with a sign as eccentric as Liberace himself, fluorescent letters announce you just have arrived at the tribute to the Diamond Star. This museum is located 2 miles and a half from the famous Strip at the Tropicana Avenue and Spencer Street. The place consists of two buildings, and the main museum keeps Liberace's clothes, jewelry, furniture, a gift shop, a cafe and a theater. The second building, at the other side of the parking lot, keeps Liberace's cars and pianos.

Liberace was known as "Mr.Showmanship" because of the rare and amazing costumes he wore during his presentations. At the museum, you can see most of those costumes, including the "Neptune" suit, which weighs about 200 pounds. Moreover, you can also see the "Lasagna" suit, with which Liberace used to joke saying that he wore that one to cook, because it will never get dirty. These amazing suits were created by one tailor, three dressmakers, and four additional people who took care of the rest of details.

You cannot miss Liberace's jewelry collection. In here, you will admire the famous Liberace Candelabra ring, with its platinum candles and its diamond flames. Furthermore, there is a piano-shape gold ring, formed by 260 diamonds and the amazing ring-shape watch covered by diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds.

Whereas the jewelry is really astonishing, there is no doubt that the item that shines the most within the whole museum is the Austrian imitation diamond which weights at least 115,000k; it is the biggest one in the whole world and only one of the numerous semi-precious stones in Liberace's collection.

Whatever we can say will be nothing compared to the impression you will get once inside the museum. Liberace's museum is open Monday through Saturday, from 10am to 5pm. On Sundays, they are open from noon till 4pm. The tickets price is about US$13 adults, children entrance is free. So, if you are visiting Las Vegas, make sure you visit Liberace's Museum. You will not regret it.
